Why the Best Time to Book Your Newborn Session is Before Your Baby Arrives
Mama-to-be, if you’ve found yourself here, first — congratulations! This is such a beautiful, tender chapter in your life, and I’m so honored you’re considering me to capture your little one’s earliest days.
I often receive inquiries from expectant moms who are interested in newborn portraits, but they aren’t quite ready to book yet. Many want to wait until their baby arrives, thinking they’ll sort out the details once they settle into life with their new little love.
And while I completely understand (because truly — those first few weeks are a whirlwind), I want to lovingly share why the very best time to book your newborn session is actually before your baby is born.
Let’s talk about why this matters, and how it makes the entire experience so much smoother, more meaningful, and stress-free for you.
✨ It Ensures You Have a Spot on My Calendar
Newborn sessions are ideally done within the first 3-4 weeks after birth — when your baby is still wonderfully sleepy, naturally curled, and content to be gently posed or cuddled in your arms. These early days are truly fleeting.
By booking your session while you’re still expecting, I’m able to reserve space around your due date. Because I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month, this guarantees you a spot during that precious window of time. If you wait until after your baby arrives, my schedule may be full, and I never want a mama to miss out on capturing these once-in-a-lifetime images.
✨ It Gives Us Time to Plan the Perfect Session Together
When you book in advance, we have the luxury of time to plan every beautiful detail together. From selecting your favorite colors and styling preferences, to choosing wardrobe options for you and your family — it’s all taken care of before your baby arrives.
I want you to feel completely cared for, so on the day of your session you can simply show up, relax, and soak in the joy of holding your tiny newborn while I capture every precious detail.
✨ It Takes One More Thing Off Your Mind Later
Those early newborn days are full of wonder… and sleep deprivation. Between round-the-clock feedings, adjusting to new routines, possibly helping older children adjust to a new sibling, and trying to recover physically and emotionally yourself, scheduling and planning a photo session can quickly drop to the bottom of the list out of sheer necessity -- because you simply won't have the brain space. So many moms don't anticipate this, and as a result either drop the idea completely or muddle through a process that is way more stressful and a lot less satisfying than it should be.
Booking early means you won’t have to think about it later. You’ll have peace of mind knowing everything is already in place, and all you have to do is enjoy those sweet snuggles.
✨ It Allows You to Capture the Fleeting Newborn Stage Beautifully
Newborns change so quickly — within a couple of weeks, their tiny features shift, they become more alert, and those sleepy, curly poses are harder to achieve. Planning your session now ensures you will indeed be able to capture this incredibly short, tender stage while the joy an wonder are fresh, in a way that you will all treasure forever.
These aren’t just photos — they’re heirlooms your child will one day hold, the first chapter in his or her life story, and memories you will cherish for the rest of your life.
So, if you’re currently expecting, I would love to hear from you. Even if you’re not 100% sure of your due date details yet, we can pencil you in, start planning your dream session, and adjust as needed once your baby makes his or her arrival.
You deserve to have this season documented in a way that feels beautiful, thoughtful, and easy. And it all starts with a simple conversation today.
I can’t wait to meet you and your little one!
