Discover Newborn Photoshoots at Chani Kay Photography

So now you have all the technical details of your package and pricing options - probably from multiple photographers, because... research, amiright?

But I'm willing to bet that you’re still missing the most important information of all:

What a newborn portrait session is actually like and how the process works.

I want to take you behind the scenes of a newborn portrait session and give you the firsthand information that really matters, which is what a newborn session feels like for you and your baby.

My Studio in Beit Shemesh, Israel

On the day of your newborn session you will be welcomed into my cozy, calm and relaxing studio space in Beit Shemesh, where I have 2 priorities: your baby and you, Mom. Because you have just done the Most Incredible Thing in the world and you deserve some pampering!

Your session has been designed not only to create gorgeous keepsakes for you but to give you a relaxing and enjoyable experience celebrating this incredible milestone in your family!

I will have snacks and drinks, music and wifi, and a relaxing couch where quite a few new moms and dads have actually fallen into a much-needed sleep while I worked! I will have a station with everything for baby from diapers and wipes to burp cloths and pacifiers, and even beauty and personal supplies for you so you almost don’t need to bring anything at all!

Keeping Your Newborn Comfy and Happy

During your baby’s session his or her safety and comfort is top priority. Your baby can’t talk, which is why it’s lucky that I’m a baby whisperer. My touch is gentle and confident, and I take the time to attune to your baby’s cues and let them attune to me so that they feel safe and comfortable in my hands.

During the session we will make sure to meet all your baby’s needs for feeding, cuddling, soothing, warmth, burps and diaper changes - it’s part of the flow, already built in and I take care of it all (except if you’re breastfeeding ;)

I have raised 8 babies of my own so I have a fair bit of experience, but I have also trained professionally with the leading safety experts in the field of newborn posing and photography which means that I know how to keep your baby safe and comfortable at all times, in every position and in every prop.

We’ve planned and styled your session in advance so everything I’ll be using is laid out: outfits, wraps, blankets, props and accessories.

Depending on the styling you’ve chosen, sometimes baby will be wrapped, sometimes in an outfit and sometimes his or her torso will be bare so we can see all the yummy little baby rolls. I will be monitoring his core body temperature at every stage and I will make adjustments to the environmental temp - through warming or cooling - to keep him just right throughout. I often advise parents to dress in layers that can be added and removed as needed because the room temp is always set to your baby’s needs.

Props are always safety tested and weighted down before baby is placed inside, and no hard surfaces will touch your baby’s skin. Everything that comes in contact with your baby is washed or laundered before you arrive. These are just some of the invisible but important details that I take care of.

Think of it as a spa day for your baby, except that at the end of it you will have the most beautiful, meaningful, emotion-filled artistic keepsakes that will become more and more valuable with each passing year as your baby grows up!

The Magic: Posing and Photographing

For your session, I have created a newborn session flow based on the poses that you love, which will probably include some table poses and some prop poses, some wrapped poses and some outfit poses.

Newborn posing is a slow and gentle yet precise process as I settle your baby into beautiful, artistic and always comfortable positions, making tiny detailed adjustments as I go and taking many shots from different angles for the best results possible. It’s a process that cannot be rushed but I have all the time and all the patience your baby needs to keep him or her comfortable and achieve our artistic goals.

Some poses are best when baby is asleep, and I have special techniques to gently get baby there. But I will always make the most of an awake baby and capture beautiful awake images as we wait for baby to be ready for sleep.

About Parent Images

Newborn and parent images are some of the most beautiful and meaningful photographs you will ever have, for your child and for you! I encourage parents not to skip this part.

Now as a new mom, I know what you might be thinking: But I've just given birth and I don't look or feel like myself rn. You want me to be photographed NOW?

Yes Mom, I do and here’s how I do it:

As you can see in the above images, I usually photograph closely cropped with the focus on the connection, love and emotion between you and your newborn. Through posing, lighting, angles and post-processing I always always make sure you will love the way you look and you won’t believe you ever considered not having these images!

Post Processing

After your session I choose the very best images and I retouch and edit them to artistic perfection before sending you a link to your digital gallery within a couple of weeks. You’ll also have the opportunity to add on heirloom prints, albums and wall art to preserve your legacy portraits for life!
